April 2018 Allure Beauty Box

Monthly beauty subscription service. Subscribers receive 5 beauty items per month (travel and full-size products). The box is $15/month and ships for free.

The Allure Beauty Box usually ties in my opinion with Ipsy as the best beauty box. When I think about getting rid of one or the other, I can never decide and I end up keeping both.

Unfortunately, this month was a disaster. I hated almost everything in the box. I only really liked one product.I don't know what happened, but this was a total fail.

We received 6 total products this month.

Rahua Classic Shampoo & Conditioner

I am not fancy when it comes to my shampoo and conditioner. The most I have spent is $25 for a Redkin product. The Rahua products don't smell great, I can't really describe it, maybe a bit like licorice. Yuck.

I will toss these in my travel bag for emergency washing purposes if I don't like the hotel options. I don't like getting shampoo and conditioners in my subscription boxes. I will say its better than getting a foil pack like

Score: 1/5 Not a fan of hair care products. $34 for the full-size shampoo (ha) and $36 for the full-size conditioner (double-ha).

Korres Pomegranate Balancing Cream-Gel Moisturizer

If I had to pick a winner in the box, this would be it. I really enjoy a Korres product. The size is lovely, it smells fantastic and it really does feel amazing on my skin.

I do have combination skin, so this was a welcome surprise. The lightweight formula easily made my skin feel lush and soft.  I really like this.

Score: 5/5 - If this wasn't so expensive, it might make it into my routine, but at $34 for the full-size, I'm not sure I can afford it.

Stellar Brilliant Primer

What a great product this is. They sent us a quiz earlier in the month so that they could send us the proper shade. I think they nailed it, my sister thinks it looks light. I guess we'll see when I road test it.

The primer has a light feathery feel when you apply and it absorbed it my skin quickly. It will make a nice addition to my travel bag. The size is enough that it will be good for maybe 2 uses. It leaves no residue behind and I can't stop touching my face. ha ha.

Score: 3/5 This is not bad. It feels delightful, I just don't use primer. It is also the most expensive product in the box, I absolutely will not be buying this. Full-size $42.

Nudestix Gel Color Lip & Cheek Balm in J Mama

Let me start by saying, there is nothing wrong with this product. It is fine. The color is a creamy mauve. Snore. I've said in the past that I am tired of this color. I just said it last month. Give me something new!

With it being springtime, I would have just really liked something different. I get confused by these combination products as well. You can use this on your checks or lips.

Score: 2/5 - Again, I am tired of the safe colors. Give me something bold and new. Full-size is $24.

Make Up Eraser Sample

This is the most messed up sample I have every received in a box. I own a few Make Up Erasers and I love them. They are a miracle product. When I saw the spoiler, I got so excited. Imagine my disappointment when I opened this sample and found an unfinished piece of cloth.

A tiny square that even warns you it will fall apart because there is no border. WHY! Why would they give us this. You couldn't put a stitch around it so it could resemble something useful? When in their natural size, these are the best products in the world. You just wet it and gently wipe away your make-up. They are washable and reusable for quite some time.

Score: 1/5 What even is this. They couldn't give us a full-size sample? Full-size $20.

Final Thoughts

Wow, the box was on a high last month. I suspect that it is because we were going to be dealt this crapfest. I'm sorry, there is no other way to put it. This is a terrible box. Almost insulting. I've seen the spoilers for May and it doesn't look much better. I am hanging on because I know June will be fantastic.

Score: 1/5 - This is a terrible box. The only saving grace is that the sample sizes are decent.
